Delegates who successfully complete short learning programmes and therefore comply with the relevant assessment criteria receive certificates of successful completion, which are issued by the provider of the training, the University of Pretoria. Certificates of attendance are issued for courses with no assessment. A complete audit and history report is available for all academic and certification records that were issued by CE at UP.

Please Contact certificates.ce@up.ac.za for all enquiries with regard to certificates.

Levels, credits and notional hours

The SAQA Criteria and Guidelines for Providers (2001:14) indicate that qualifications from levels 5 to 8 are offered in the Higher Education and Training (HET) band. The short courses offered through CE at UP are therefore presented on levels 5 to 8. The level also refers to the complexity or degree of difficulty of a particular short course.

Although the University of Pretoria offers non-credit-bearing short learning programmes, a credit value is recommended in order to provide an indication of the average length of time it will take a learner to master the learning required. Notional hours of learning includes concepts such as contact time, time spent in structural learning in the workplace and individual learning.
