E-Learning
Learn at your own pace, from the privacy of your own premises at your own convenience!
What is E-Learning?
E-Learning (also spelled eLearning) is broadly defined as education or training that is created or delivered using a computer or other online learning technologies.
Why E-Learning?
Online training is more affordable than traditional classroom training.
Online courses can be taken in multiple sittings and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — to better accommodate your busy schedule. No more waiting for scheduled course dates. Train whenever you are ready!
Online training is as mobile as you are! Your training can take place on the road, at home, at work, or any other place you have an internet-accessible computer.
How often do you sit in a classroom and do not get to participate because of some loud delegate constantly wanting attention? With E-Learning you participate in all the course activities, helping you better understand and apply what is being taught.
E-Learning ensures that all learners receive the same message. By using audio, visuals, interactivity, and simulation, E-Learning can accommodate the various learning styles to communicate the message more effectively.
Continuing Professional Development
As a major provider of continuing education courses in the South African landscape, CE at UP has gone to great lengths with a variety of professional bodies to ensure that the standards of training and continuing education for their particular members meet only the most stringent of criteria prescribed by these professional bodies.
The drive towards this compliance with the standards set by professional bodies started with CE at UP’s active participation in the institutional audit of the University of Pretoria, which was conducted by the Higher Education Quality Committee in May 2007. This was followed up through consultation with sector education and training authorities (SETAs) during 2007 to explore the desirability of programme accreditation by the SETAs. Subsequently, recognition of the Employee Health Benefits course by the Financial Services Board (FSB) was achieved during 2007. This course is now recognised by the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) as being fit and proper. A further agreement was reached between the School of Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology and the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to register CE at UP’s courses on the list of approved continuing professional development (CPD) activities for the engineering profession. Other professional bodies and institutions, including the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), were also contacted for information and recognition of courses for continued professional development activities.
In addition to the normal training programmes, CE at UP can offer high level CPD events in association with leading academics from the University of Pretoria, in the form of workshops and seminars, in order for professionals to meet their CPD obligation. Workshop topics could include ethics, medical law and human rights etc. and can be tailored to meet specific requirements.
